KuneKune Pigs
We are currently taking a break from pigs, but will come back to this lovely breed in the future as they are truly wonderful when bred well. If you are looking for stock, please feel free to reach out for recommendations of reputable breeders.
KuneKune pigs (pronounced “cooney cooney”) are a smart option for small farms. KuneKune means “fat and round” in the Maori language. These wattled, sweet-tempered, medium-sized pigs are native to New Zealand.
They have short, upturned snouts that discourage rooting, and they do not challenge fences. KuneKunes are grazing pigs and are able to grow on low inputs. As a result they mature slowly but they are more than worth the wait.
We focus on health and function. While trends may be to make faces shorter and pigs larger, our goals remain easy keeping and healthy animals. When breeding animals, following trends often leads to health concerns.
